Engaging our youth in sports and recreation is so important to us at the Resource Council of WNY. Not only do we encourage our youth and teens to learn and explore new sports, but we also know that their involvement can help develop and strengthen basic life skills, such as discipline, communication, leadership, conflict-resolution and team-building, among many others. The Resource Council of WNY is determined to break down barriers and introduce our community youth to ALL sports.

We encourage you to check for updates on our youth sports programming as new sports sampling events, teams and clinics are offered throughout the year.

Resource Council of WNY COACH Basketball Program

The Resource Council of WNY COACH Program is a year-round basketball program that encourages league play for youth ages 11 – 13 and 14 – 17. Youth participants  engage in friendly basketball competition at least twice a week with age-appropriate peers during our lighthouse hours from 6pm – 9pm. No prior basketball skills are required. Just a positive attitude and willingness to connect, engage and have fun, in a safe, fun environment.

COACH is an acronym for “Creating Opportunities and Access to Coaching and Healing,” and a program component that is unique to this initiative is that our young athletes have direct access to individual and group counseling services, as part of their league participation. Dinner, snacks, and additional wraparound support services are also available to youth participants and their families. This program would not be possible without the generous support of the Erie County Youth Services!

The RCWNY ALL STARS Hockey Program

This coming Fall, the Resource Council of WNY will host our second annual Youth Ice Hockey Program for boys and girls, ages 8 – 12, at Nichols High School. Our free, thirteen-week program will provide lessons on how to skate and play the sport of hockey. We provide bus transportation, all hockey equipment, training and even snacks for all participants. No experience is necessary.

This year’s ALL STARS Hockey program would not be possible without the generous support of the Variety Club of Buffalo and the Ralph C. Wilson Legacy Grant.

For more details on either program, please call us at 716-783-8259 or email us at info@rcwny.org.
